Johnny Chan

Johnny Chan was born in China and migrated to the United States of America. He became interested in the world of gambling when he was 16 years old. Chan had the chance to go to Las Vegas. His experience in Las Vegas made him drop out of school a few years later. He went back to Las Vegas and started his career as a professional poker player. Chan was able to win one game after another. According to him, his being Asian could have influenced his victories. He thought that most of the poker players that he played with must have not played with an Asian player. Therefore, it could have been difficult for them to read his moves. Chan won the World Series of Pokers for two consecutive years, 1987 and 1988. He failed to defend his title when played with Phil Helmuth in the 1989 World Series of Pokers. The achievement enabled him to be included in the Poker Hall of Fame in 2002. In 2005, he was able to win the World Series of Pokers for the tenth time.

Phil Helmuth

Phil Helmuth is a native of Wisconsin. His passion in playing poker made him the youngest World Champion of Poker. Like Chan, Helmuth left the University of Wisconsin-Madison after attending the university for three years. He defeated two-time World Champion Johnny Chan in 1989. From then on, he became popular and earned big winnings in his poker games as well as from advertisements, deals and merchandises. The total amount of winnings that Helmuth got was estimated to have reached eight million dollars as of 2006.

Doyle Brunson

Doyle Brunson is also known as "Texas Dolly." Brunson was an athlete but after having a knee injury, he decided to find another field which he could excel in. So, Brunson started playing poker. He went around Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma to play poker. He holds the record as the first poker player to earn one million dollars out of the tournaments that he had taken part in. In 1978, Brunson wrote a book entitled "Super/System." His book is considered to be a big hit among poker enthusiasts worldwide.
